Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) belongs to the passion flower family (Passifloraceae). Edulis means "edible." It It is distinguished between the passion fruit or purple granadilla (edulis), which is more cold tolerant and self-pollinated, and the passion fruit or yellow granadilla (flavicarpa), which is resistant to fusarium and nematodes and is cross-pollinated. Passion fruit is a climbing plant that is best cultivated in an unheated greenhouse or container. It is grown as a crop, of which the fruits (berries) are used as fruit, for making juice. Oil is extracted from the seeds of the berries. Passion fruit is used as a medicinal plant.

Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina
Sunny to off-sun location, not too hot. Permeable substrate. Requires a climbing aid. Propagation by cuttings or seeds. Germination after 4 weeks. Can be grown in the greenhouse all year round. In containers outdoors only in summer. Allow seeds to pre-swell for 2 days before sowing.
