Beschreibung

Olive herb also known as green cypress herb, green-leaved, cypress herb, rosemary-leaved saint's herb and green saint's flower, belongs to the family of composite plants (Asteraceae). It is grown as a seasoning herb, ornamental and medicinal plant. The taste of the leaves reminds of pickled olives. The hardy shrub is evergreen and grows branched, bushy up to 70 cm/27.6 in high. From June to about August form the cup-shaped, small, yellow flowers, which also smell of olives. You can harvest the aromatic leaves of the olive herb continuously.

Anbautipps

Likes nutrient-poor, calcareous and permeable soil. The leaves can be harvested continuously, for this cut off the whole shoot tips. The herb can be propagated by cuttings, cuttings or rootstock division, but these should be planted only after the last frosts. Does not need to be preplanted, can also be grown in containers. Cold germinator, needs temperatures between 4-8°C/39-46°F. Water only sparingly, as the herb is very sensitive to waterlogging. Cut back 1/3 after flowering, as well as woody areas.
