Cloves are a genus of plants belonging to the clove family (Caryophyllaceae). There are 320-600 species. Annual and perennial. Biennial plants bloom only in the 2nd year. Grow to about 50 cm/19.7 in tall. Herbaceous growing plants that develop strong taproots and sometimes rhizomes. Are cultivated as ornamentals, producing white, pink, red to purple flowers. Some varieties are fragrant. Contrary to the name, the clove botanically does not belong to the cloves but to the family of myrtle (Myrtaceae).

Temperate areas of the northern hemisphere
Water seeds vigorously after sowing. Also suitable for pot culture. Cut off withered flowers. Moderate to good winter hardiness, so cover with fleece in winter if necessary. Propagation via cuttings.
