Oil radish grows quickly, produces strong leaf growth in a short time and forms deep taproots. The root mass yield is very high. Oil radish is also called "vertical drainage for the soil" because of its strong root penetration. It is beneficial to the soil in terms of fermentation and is turnip nematode neutral. - Susceptibility to cabbage hernia is not as severe as other cabbage crops. - Heavy shading of the soil is expected even at the young plant stage. Green manure plants are a prerequisite for keeping the soil healthy in a natural garden. The soil should never be left uncovered. In addition to mulching with cut organic matter, green manures provide a way to keep the soil fertile. Leaf and root mass provide valuable structural improvement. Plant growth shades the soil and protects it from evaporation, and beneficial soil organisms multiply and provide favorable, natural humus formation. During heavy downpours, the soil is protected from erosion, nutrient leaching into the subsoil is prevented and the undesirable accompanying weeds (weeds) cannot grow.
