Description

This pumpkin variety produces 2 to 5 fruits per plant, with a diameter of 12-22 cm and an average weight of 1.5 kg, which can be up to 3 kg. 'Potimarron' is dark orange, its skin is thin and tender, its flesh is dark yellow-orange, thick, tender, sweet, aromatic with a very distinct taste of chestnut puree, an incomparable flavor. It keeps very well and is eaten as a puree, pie, gratin, cake, soup or casserole. As a Hokkaido pumpkin, it does not need to be peeled for cooking. The plant is strongly climbing.

Growing tips

Caution: Pumpkins never turn bitter. Bitter fruits can be poisonous and should not be eaten! Germination in 10-15 days at 18-20°C. Vining pumpkins need approx. 3 m² of space. We recommend pre-growing seedlings. An even supply of water and nutrients is important for healthy growth and abundant fruiting. In the event of drought or a lack of fertilization, the small pumpkins will partially die. At temperatures below 5°C, you should cover the entire plant with fleece. The fleece should be removed as soon as flowers form. Place a small wooden board, a flat stone or straw under the fruit to prevent the fruit from rotting on wet soil. You can harvest as soon as the pumpkin sounds hollow when you "tap" it. To harvest, cut the pumpkin at the stem, but leave part of the stem attached to the fruit. Otherwise the pumpkins will rot quickly and cannot be stored for as long.
