Delicious fruity tasting egg-shaped pear melons Pepino (Solanum muricatum) are a wonderful snack fruit, which at the same time looks peppy and unusual. They fit well on balconies and patios, as well as in miniature gardens. From pretty purple-yellow flowers, the bushy growing plants develop many yellow-orange, purple-striped and -spotted fruits. They reach the size and shape of goose eggs. The flesh tastes pleasantly sweet aromatic, about between pears and melons. The fruits taste best fresh, cut into pieces or served chilled in the form of fruit salad. But you can also prepare from it juice and jam.
