The blackberry 'Black Satin' is a high-yielding and delicious variety. As its name suggests, the (bot.) Rubus fruticosus 'Black Satin' delights with large, shiny black fruits. The flesh of this blackberry is soft and tastes aromatic and tart. The berries are long and oval and are easy to pick from the branches. These berries are simply delicious! They are perfect for snacking and eating. They can also be made into jam, jelly or desserts. Blackberry 'Black Satin' has decorative dark green leaves and is a deciduous shrub. Rubus fruticosus 'Black Satin' grows upright with long shoots and lush foliage. The plant develops vigorously and delights with its thornless shoots. This attractive feature makes it easier to pick the berries. Especially for children in the family garden. This impressive variety flowers early and for a long time, sometimes well into August. The flowers develop on last year's long shoots. The light flowers appear in a delicate rosé on the branches. Over the course of the summer, the large, tart, aromatic fruits develop from these, the juice of which is strongly colored. Due to the long harvest period, the fruits of the 'Black Satin' blackberry are ripe for picking from the beginning of August to the beginning of October. The high yields are a delight for the gardener. This blackberry variety is uncomplicated and undemanding. The berries have a great taste. It is impossible to resist picking this sweet fruit. The low demands on the location allow a sunny to semi-shady location. A fresh, moist and well-drained garden soil with sandy parts is perfect.

The blackberry bush reaches a height of 1.20 to 1.50 meters. This manageable size also makes it ideal for smaller gardens. The fast-growing shrub has an annual growth of 40 to 120 centimeters per year. As the blackberries bear on 2-year-old shoots, they should be trained on a trellis or similar climbing aid. Horizontal shoots produce more flowers and fruit than vertical ones. Rubus fruticosus 'Black Satin' tolerates pruning well and can be cut back in spring without difficulty. Blackberry 'Black Satin' develops very well on a trellis. When well secured by the gardener, its shoots grow in the desired direction. This ensures that the two-year-old shoots with the fruit grow to one side and this year's shoots to the other. This makes harvesting much easier. After harvesting, the gardener cuts back the harvested shoots just above the ground. This encourages the plant to produce new young shoots. The best time to plant the 'Black Satin' blackberry is spring and fall. Planting in the summer months is also unproblematic if there is sufficient watering. Plant lovers should make sure that the planting hole is twice the size and width of the root ball. The blackberry is ideal for the snack and fruit garden. In a group planting, an appropriate distance between the plants is recommended. A distance of around 100 centimetres should be maintained between the individual specimens.
