The winter pear 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' produces delicately aromatic pears that are juicy and sweet. The fruits of this plant are medium to large in size and have the typical bottle-like shape with a thick belly. Their skin is yellowish-green and changes to a yellowish-brown color when fully ripe. The pears of (bot.) Pyrus communis 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' can be harvested in mid to late September. Although the fruits are not yet ripe for consumption, this is the only way to store them for a long time. If the pears are picked from the tree while the flesh is still hard, they can be enjoyed until February if stored well. The pear fruits of the winter pear 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' do not reach eating ripeness until the end of October to November. Beware of confusion: This variety is not identical to the pear tree 'Frühe Boc's Flaschenbirne'.

The winter pear 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' produces good fruit for direct consumption and for preserving. Preserved pears of this variety are wonderful for various desserts and as a garnish. Pyrus communis 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' is a well-known variety that was already growing in Apremont (France) in 1783. Plants of this variety came to Germany in 1810 and it has established itself in orchards thanks to its delicious fruit. The winter pear 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' grows as a large shrub to a maximum width of 300 cm and a height of 200 to 400 cm. This means that the plant can also grow in small gardens. With a growth of 20 to 40 cm, the winter pear 'Bosc's Flaschenbirne' / 'Kaiser Alexander' is one of the medium-growing varieties. Another pear variety in the vicinity is important for a good yield. Good pollinators are, for example, the summer pear 'Williams Christbirne' and the autumn pear 'Clapps Liebling'.
