The variety Autumn King / Herbstkönig is a late carrot with cylindrical fruits up to 30 cm/11.8 in long and has a refined fruity aroma with a fine sweetness. Matures in the fall, but can be left in the ground and pulled through most of the winter if needed. It also stores very well and can be easily canned or frozen for enjoyment year-round. Development time: 80-90 days for young carrots, 150 days to store. Yielding.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Germination in 2-4 weeks at 10-20°C/50-68°F. Sow very thinly, which saves thinning later. It is best to mix the seed with a handful of sand and scatter in rows. Always keep well and evenly moist. Carrots like sandy, well-drained soil. Do not fertilize too much, otherwise the carrots will develop a lot of small hairy roots.
