This species originated in the Siberian region, therefore the plant loves a cooler climate. It does not form inflorescences at the ends of its stems, but small bulbs, this is also called false inflorescence. The brood bulbs (bulbils) can grow in several tiers, hence the name. These bulbils can be eaten raw or boiled/fried. They are also good as a substitute for chives. From April to October, you can use both the foliage of the air onions and, from the end of July, the pungent bulbs with their sprouts. The air onion is hardy and reaches a height of up to 70 cm/27.6 in. The bulbs can be stored well.
