Stuttgarter Riesen forms beautiful platy round, yellow and robust onion of very good durability. One, very firm and late dying onion of medium size. Mild pungency and good shelf life in storage. Well-known variety for onion production. Onions are very healthy, they grow well in old fertilized nutrient-rich soil with dry location for ripening.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Fertilizer applications of potash and phosphorus only until mid-June increase shelf life. Germination at 10-20°C. The soil should not be freshly fertilized at sowing. Only the roots should be in the soil. Pre-germination is recommended. The bulbs are ripe as soon as the foliage turns yellow. Harvest in dry weather and ideally let them ripen for a few more days in the dry field. Then store in a dry, airy and cool place, e.g. tied as braids.
