Dear Community,
I still owe you a review of TonTau, the irrigation system I won here.
Regarding delivery: everything arrived well-packaged and undamaged.
Since I wanted to use it for tomatoes, though, it sat around for a few weeks until the cold snap was over.
Only then did I really get around to setting it up.
First, I realized that my 1/2-inch hoses didn’t fit.
Then I found out at various hardware stores that this is actually the “standard” size. I’m no DIY pro, so I had to figure it out as I went along.
The 3/4-inch hoses weren’t actually available, except for the very expensive one from Gardena—which TonTau also recommended. I ended up using an inexpensive flexible hose that’s 3/4 inch.
Then I wanted to assemble the system. In the process, I realized that the package included 10 clamps, but I needed 20, so I had to buy more clamps. Also, the package didn’t include an end cap for the fitting, so water would leak out at the end. Another thing to buy! This is starting to get expensive!
Then I attached the distributors to the clay pots. Two of the little heads snapped right off!
Note: I’m sure TonTau would have sent me new pots. But a few weeks had already passed, and I was pretty disappointed, so I DIDN’T file a complaint. My own fault—not TonTau’s mistake.
Still, it’s worth noting that the clay pots are very fragile. I may be a bit clumsy, but I’m careful, at least.
Using them was a hassle for me. Since the hose had a different diameter than my usual one, it was quite a hassle to keep switching it out so I could draw water from the water tank for the other plants. It’s probably convenient if you can leave the system permanently connected to a water tank. I don’t have that option.
Now that I’ve removed my tomatoes, I have to clean the pots carefully and thoroughly and store them in a protected place for the winter.
My conclusion—my very personal one—is that I’m not convinced by TonTau. It’s expensive, cumbersome, and inefficient.
I’m happier with the clay pots from a discount store where you can simply place bottles inside. And bottles—simply protected at the spout with a piece of cotton cloth to keep soil from clogging them—work just as well. That worked well for me this summer.
I was so disappointed that I didn’t take any pictures.
I’ll also be sending this review to TonTau.

Allerdings! Klingt nach einer einfachen und günstigen Lösung 😃
