I haven't seen him in our garden since 2022! What a joy to have spotted him today—unfortunately, he wasn't in the mood for a long photo shoot: the chimney sweep, or brown forest moth 😀 Wild carrots are especially popular with small and very small insects right now: Photos 2 and 3 show a plantain moth, which is just 1.5 cm long. Well, its caterpillars certainly won’t go hungry here—ribwort plantain grows in abundance 😂 The masked bee in Photo 4 is just half a centimeter long. In Photo 5, you can even make out a bit of the white “mask” that gives it its name. It’s probably a female; the white markings are much larger on the males. I’ve never been able to identify a masked bee more precisely—it’s not easy to get a good photo of its little face. But this time, observation.org says it’s a horned masked bee. I’ll take their word for it and I’m happy about it 🤗. Photos 6 and 7 show a red soft beetle, and Photo 8 shows a woolly-headed flower beetle. You can see just how small it is when compared to the gold fly in Photo 9. I only spotted it through the macro lens when I was trying to photograph the gold fly.

Ups, die hat's nicht rechtzeitig nach Hause geschafft, aber der Sonnenschein ließ bestimmt nicht lange auf sich warten. Man kann sie gar nicht mehr erkennen, die gelben Streifen nur erahnen...
