I’m totally thrilled right now 🤩—while I was pricking out seedlings, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of something big and dark crawling toward me. Isn’t it a beauty?? Unfortunately, it’s very rare. I put it back in the forest in a bucket. It lives in old deciduous forests, especially oak forests, and needs dead wood for its long larval development (5–8 years). The beetle is critically endangered and protected throughout Europe, as its habitat is being destroyed by intensive forestry. #StagBeetle
