The 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' winter apple is one of the oldest German apple varieties and is a real long-life apple. Its large apples have a flat-round shape with strong ribs. The smooth skin first takes on light green, later light yellow tones with red stripes. When stored, the shiny, fragrant fruits turn flaming red. Its yellowish-white flesh tastes spicy-sweet with a slight acidity. The apples have a strong aroma. The fruits of (bot.) Malus 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' ripen on the tree until October. They require a further two months of storage in a cool room before they develop their full aroma. They taste best fresh from December to April. The versatile fruits can be used to make delicious cakes, apple compote and apple juice. The flowering period of the 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' winter apple begins after the late frosts at the beginning of May. The fruit buds open into pale pink, white blossom pods. With a suitable pollinator nearby, the harvest yield is significantly higher. Proven varieties are 'James Grieve', 'Goldparmäne', 'Ontario' or 'Berlepsch'. Pollen exchange is carried out by the helpful bees and bumblebees in their search for nectar.

The strong-growing winter apple 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' quickly forms a broad crown with strong branches. Its annual growth is between 20 and 40 centimeters. The apple tree finds a good place in a larger home garden or on an orchard meadow. The extremely robust Malus 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' loves humid locations and grows at altitudes of up to 1000 meters. It takes some time for the first yields to appear in a new location. Subsequently, it produces very high yields every two years. The 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' winter apple is easy to grow in a sunny and sheltered spot. A well-drained, evenly moist soil supports a rich fruit set and healthy growth. The undisputed advantages of this old apple variety include its low maintenance requirements and its robust and frugal nature. The 'Rheinischer Winterrambur' winter apple is very resistant to the classic apple pests and diseases.
