The beautiful blue-purple to pink-pink and white flowering sweet pea should not be missing in any natural cottage garden. Its flowers exude a wonderful fragrance. It is an annual showy pea, which is not edible. The pea pods that the plant forms after flowering are not edible and are only used to harvest seeds for sowing next year. Each pod contains eight flat peas. The flowers of this wild form of pea from Italy emit a beguiling fragrance. They contain a large amount of essential oils that are used in perfume production. Sweet pea makes a great cut flower, and regular removal of the flowers (either cutting with stem while they are in bloom or breaking them off when they have wilted) also extends the blooming season.
F1 Hybrid
Not frost resistant
Instead, the fragrant wild pea is perfect as a climbing potted plant for greening light climbing aids such as pergolas, fences, balconies or simply free-standing poles. It can also climb facades, provided they are not exposed to full midday sun, but there it usually does not have enough space for its lush growth.
