The annual sugar loaf lettuce is a great winter vegetable and an ideal last salad for the fall and winter harvest. Sugar loaf is also visually stunning in the bed, as it forms firm, highly oval and usually slightly pointed heads. These can grow up to 45 cm high and weigh around 2 kg. This lettuce variety is particularly picturesque due to its wavy, slightly curled leaves. It is well suited as a storage vegetable.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
As a long-day plant, it should only be sown outdoors from mid-June, otherwise it tends to sprout. Dark germinator, sowing depth: 0.5-1cm, optimum germination temperature: +20-25°C. Germinates easily in 7-14 days. Planting distance: 30-40 cm. Loves sunny to semi-shady locations with well-drained, humus-rich soil. The firm heads can be harvested 8-12 weeks after sowing.
