Contrary to its original name, the 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' (bot. Ribes uva-crispa 'Captivator') is virtually thornless. It grows upright, vigorous and bushy. From mid-July to September, gardeners can enjoy a large number of beautiful, bright red berries. They are medium-sized and taste sweet and sour. The 'Spikeless' gooseberry 'Captivator' is considered the variety with the best taste. But its name should not deceive anyone. The plant occasionally develops thorns. Botanically speaking, these are thorns. In contrast to other gooseberry varieties, however, the 'Captivator' gooseberry without thorns can be described as gentle and harmless. This robust plant grows quickly and vigorously in normal garden soil. It prefers a sunny to semi-shady location and requires little care. The 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' grows to a height of between 60 and 120 centimetres and reaches a similar width. The 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' grows between 10 and 30 centimeters per year. The leaves are bright green in color, have a beautiful sheen, are lobed and have serrated edges. In the fall, they change from green to a warm yellowish color. The frost-hardy 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' goes dormant during the cold season. The numerous small flowers are inconspicuous, pale green in color with a hint of reddish. A special feature of the 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' is its good resistance to mildew. This variety is self-fertile, so it does not need another variety for fertilization. The 'Spikeless' gooseberry 'Captivator' can be planted in spring or fall. The gardener plants the young plant about ten centimetres deeper than in the pot. At this point, it is advisable to prune the young plant. The gardener shortens the shoots by about half to two thirds. This promotes lateral sprouting and yield. When planting in groups, keep a planting distance of 150 centimetres. In subsequent years, the 'Stachellose' gooseberry 'Captivator' only needs a few pruning measures to maintain its yield. Fertilization with compost and horn shavings is recommended in March / April. The red, delicious berries can be harvested from mid-July to the end of August. In autumn, the leaves are freed from the flat part of the thorn, while they shine in the splendor of autumn colors. The gardener continues to cut them from the bush, they are slightly lobed and serrated at the edge. The numerous small fruits of the tasty gooseberry are of the tried and tested variety. The Captivator gooseberry adorns its very sublime crown of delicate small flowers at this time of year. On
