It is also extremely high-yielding and offers aromatic fruits that are particularly large. No wonder that (bot.) Rubus idaeus 'Saxa Record' -S- is a much sought-after variety among all raspberry lovers. This successful cultivar comes from Saxony and originated on the sunny slopes of the Elbe not far from Dresden. The raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- is characterized by its robust and high-yielding nature. Its fruits are tasty, aromatic and large. Whether eaten fresh from the bush, as a delicious jam or as decoration on desserts and cakes - the fruits of the raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- are considered an exquisite soft fruit. The delicate taste of this raspberry variety is reminiscent of the aromatic wild raspberries. However, Rubus idaeus 'Saxa Record' -S- offers a decisive advantage: the firm berries retain their beautiful shape even after freezing and are therefore ideal for preserving. This is a real plus point due to the extremely rich harvest. The first individual fruits can be picked as early as August, increasing the anticipation. The main harvest begins in September and then it is a matter of harvesting almost daily and freezing excess berries. The garden owner can enjoy raspberries every day for around eight weeks. In some cases, fruit still appears on this autumn raspberry in November. The yield of the raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- is extremely good and is sufficient for many jars of jam and jelly.

Growing tips

The raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- is best suited to a classic orchard. However, the raspberry plant is suitable for a variety of uses in the garden. For example, it can be combined with other plants to create an unusual hedge. As a hedge planting, Rubus idaeus 'Saxa Record' -S- serves as a bee nourishing plant from an ecological point of view and is also a green privacy screen until the fall. Berry lovers without their own garden can also enjoy this raspberry variety! The plants of this variety grow excellently in containers and can be cultivated on the balcony or patio. However, the planter should hold at least 60 liters. The shrub is very undemanding and can cope with many locations. Ideally, the soil should be deep for this plant and a sunny spot is recommended for optimum ripening of the berries. The raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- is robust and not threatened by root rot. Another advantage is that the fruit-bearing canes are so strong and therefore self-supporting that there is no need to tie them up to poles or scaffolding. As the raspberry 'Saxa Record' -S- is an autumn raspberry, it bears on annual wood. In terms of care, this means that the canes should be cut back to ground level in November before the first frost. They will sprout vigorously again in spring. The rootstock itself is hardy down to sub-zero temperatures.
