The original home of this beautiful perennial is in mountainous terrain. Blue fescue loves lean locations. These include sunlit, lime-rich soils on rocky ledges or stony slopes. The cultivated form 'Festina' requires appropriate conditions in its habitat. It is just as beautiful in a rock garden as it is as a clumping plant in the foreground of a pond. The intense blue-grey of its leaves depends on the conditions of the location. The blue of the leaves intensifies on lean and dry soil. Growth is also better on this substrate. Blue fescue is native to northern Italy and central and south-western Europe. It is a plant of the mountains. Here the (bot.) Festuca cinerea colonizes rocky slopes, dry meadows and sparse forests. Festina' blue fescue is a member of the sweet grass family. It enchants the observer with the way it grows. This low grass develops loose, hemispherical clumps or low-growing cushions. It does not sprawl. Between the stems and leaf sheaths it is grass-like. In the first year, these shoots appear. During this time, the blue fescue is an intense blue color. This color fades slightly in the following period. The flowering period is between June and July. During this period, Festuca cinerea 'Festina' forms blue-yellow flower panicles. The winter-green plant retains its gray-blue leaves during the cold season. If the gardener removes the flower panicles after flowering, the color intensity of the beautiful 'Festina' is enhanced. The blue fescue 'Festina' reaches a height of up to 40 centimeters. It reaches the same width. This makes it a cute hemisphere.
