Description

Punica granatum Wonderful is a selection of the pomegranate tree that is characterized by its fruit yield and bright flowers. This attractive shrub grows shrub-like or as a small tree up to around 1 to 2 m in height and can reach a width of around 120 cm. The pretty, funnel-shaped flowers appear from June to July. With their strong, orange-red color, they stand out well against the light green, glossy leaves, which are up to 8 cm in size. The reddish leaves also create a beautiful play of colors. In good growing conditions, the Wonderful pomegranate tree bears its first edible, tart fruit from around the 6th to 8th year. The pomegranates can grow up to 10 cm in size and develop a beautiful red skin when ripe. Punica granatum Wonderful is particularly suitable as a container plant and brings a Mediterranean flair to the garden.

Growing tips

The Wonderful pomegranate loves sunny and warm conditions and copes well with temporary dry spells. The soil should be sandy, humus-rich and well-drained. For overwintering, we recommend keeping it in a conservatory or cold house. Only in very mild regions can they be grown outdoors with good winter protection. The plants tolerate pruning well. Other container plants for the Mediterranean garden could include figs, lavender or the dwarf mulberry Mojo Berry.
