Old melon variety from France, also known as "musk melon" or "black rock". Dark green, almost black, smooth, ribbed skin, orange-yellowish when fully ripe. Sweet yellow flesh. Relatively early harvest from August. Noir des Carmes is self-fertile, the fruits weigh approx. 0.5-1.5 kg.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Sow melons in seed trays or pots approx. 6 weeks before transplanting them outside. Cultivate at a temperature of 20 °C. After the last frost, transplant the seedlings with the entire root ball into compost-enriched soil. Plant at a distance of 1 m in all directions. Sowing outdoors is possible under the same conditions if the soil is well warmed up and the outside temperature no longer falls below 15°C. Melons need plenty of light and warmth to ripen before frost. Further growing tips for the type of sugar melon.
