An ancient Russian variety and can be found in many peasant gardens there. A dual-purpose type of melon. Young fruits are processed like cucumbers, for example as pickles or stuffed. When fully ripe, the fruit is a melon. The taste is very refreshing as there is not too much sugar. Also thrives in climatically less favorable areas. It should be grown outdoors on black foil. Self-fertile.
