Description

This ancient grill pepper variety 'Cubanelle' offers an abundance of conical fruits that consist of two or three lobes and change from yellow-green to orange-red when ripe. They have a thin skin, thick and soft flesh and an incomparably sweet and spicy flavor. Fruits are approx. 11-15 cm/4.3-5.9 in long and up to approx. 6 cm/2.4 in in diameter. A highly productive plant that bears fruit continuously. This old variety probably originates from Italy. It was introduced in the United States in 1958 and is also known as 'Cubanella', or 'Friarelli' in Italy and 'Ají Cubanela' in Spanish.

Non hybrid

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

Sow the seeds on the surface of moist, well-drained sowing soil and cover lightly with sieved substrate. Place the pots in a propagator or similar until germination. Cultivate at a temperature of 20-25°C/68-77°F. A bright location promotes germination. Plant out the young plants at a height of 10 cm/3.9 in at a distance of 50 cm/19.7 in, preferably in a tomato house or in pots in a sheltered, sunny spot. As soon as there is no longer any danger of frost, plant in well-drained, nutritious soil in full sun. Fertilize once a week as soon as fruits appear.
