Description

Shakira is a very adaptable and robust variety of hot peppers, which can be cultivated in the greenhouse and outdoors. The plants bear very many, slender, pointed, 19-21 cm/7.5-8.3 in long and 2-3 cm/0.8-1.4 in wide fruits. These ripen early from dark green to red, becoming pungent and spicy. The pungency level of the ripe fruits ranges from 5 to 7. This F1 hybrid is resistant to tobacco mosaic virus. Germination after 10-14 days at 22-25°C/72-77°F. (From Kiepenkerl).

Growing tips

Cover the seeds only lightly with soil for germination, keep evenly moist but not wet and warm (min. 20°C/68°F, more likely 25°C/77°F). A bright location is also important. After germination, place slightly colder. Prick out as soon as 2-4 true leaves are present. Harden off before planting out. When the first fruits start to form, fertilize about 1 time a week. A consistent water supply is also important. The first flower can be broken out to encourage the formation of more fruit. Wind-protected locations are advantageous. Support shoots if necessary.
