Description

This product contains a combination of the Batavia lettuce 'Rossia' and the Batavia lettuce 'Leny'. The two bolt-resistant Batavia lettuces are ideal for growing outdoors from spring to fall, with sowing taking place in spring and summer. They are also ideal for growing in raised beds and containers. The red lettuce 'Rossia' forms a loose head with a crunchy, firm interior and tender, "buttery", intensely red outer leaves. The variety is resistant to unfavorable weather conditions and tolerant to downy mildew (races 1-16, 19, 21, 23). The wonderfully green variety 'Leny' has a particularly delicious, nutty-aromatic flavor. It forms a very large, loosely filled head of crunchy leaves. The variety is naturally tolerant to the green lettuce aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri), the lettuce mosaic virus and downy mildew (races 1-16, 19, 21, 23). (Kiepenkerl)

Growing tips

Germination in 7-14 days at 12-16°C. Cultivation period approx. 10-12 weeks. Lettuces are very suitable as 'gap fillers'. They require sufficient moisture and have comparatively low nutrient requirements. With a clever selection, lettuce can be grown all year round: in spring and early summer, lettuce and cut/picked lettuce; in summer and fall, chicory lettuce and iceberg lettuce as well as lamb's lettuce (especially in fall and winter). For a continuous harvest, it is best to sow or plant at intervals. Species and varieties must be adapted to the respective season, e.g. spring varieties start to shoot when it is too hot. This causes a long stalk to form and the leaves become bitter. After a few weeks, small flowers appear at the top, from which many crescent-shaped seeds are formed. These can be collected for the following year or disperse themselves in the bed if you leave them standing.
