#mixedcropping2026 I started with row-based mixed cropping in my first year of gardening, but soon after switched to a colorful, randomly arranged mixed cropping pattern in all my beds. This year, for example, I’ve had tomatoes, carrots, onions, borage, marigolds, cosmos, marjoram, peas, black salsify, fennel, beans, cucumbers, beets, and turnips in one bed (Image 2, left) and tomatoes, beans, celeriac, Swiss chard, squash, beets, lettuce, chervil, onions, carrots, pointed cabbage, and parsnips (Image 2, right). In others: savoy cabbage, leeks, chamomile, parsley, marigold, red cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, basil (Image 3, left) and savoy cabbage, leeks, lettuce, beans, red and white cabbage, cauliflower, Swiss chard (Image 3, right). In a raised bed, I have tomatoes, beans, lettuce, dill, zucchini, squash, coastal kale, marigold, bell peppers, and borage (Images 4 and 5). Now, much of it has been harvested.
