This is our new garden. I wouldn’t be myself if this weren’t another challenge. This garden had been neglected for years. There was a dispute with the previous owner’s heirs. Its condition was probably the reason I was able to get it in the first place. The garden was completely overgrown with ivy, Canadian goldenrod, stinging nettles, and, unfortunately, hops. The path surfaces were unrecognizable. During the tour, I kept tripping over overgrown curbstones and hop vines. The only things that survived from the previous owner were fruit trees, three ancient Josta (red) currants, and two perennials. Everything was in very poor condition. The garden was completely dark and shady, as an oversized thuja hedge and the ivy blocked out all the light. On September 20, I got started and first cleared the path to the house. From then on, I pruned like crazy. So far, we’ve hauled away 5 m³ of clippings (just thuja and ivy) using a flatbed truck with raised side walls. And there’s still quite a bit of ivy to go. The hardwood clippings will be shredded. Maybe I’ll tackle the first batch tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted.
