Today I seized the moment after it rained half the night. I placed the three ollas in the garden bed. Each one holds about 7–8 liters. I also added a little sand to the bed and applied a new, thin layer of mulch. The experiment can begin, and I’m curious to see how it turns out. I’ll transplant the young plants as soon as it’s not so hot anymore. Of course, I’ll still have to water them. I’m going to build a frame so I can stretch non-woven fabric, bird netting, or shade netting over it. It’ll be a bit taller so the wind can blow through easily. I’m also planning to plant sunflowers or something similar at the head of the bed next year to block the midday sun. I’ll have to think that through again, though, because we’ve seen that it can get hot as early as May or June. I’ll also be posting more about other watering methods, like soaker hoses and drip irrigation. The important thing is that we get our soil ready now. “Anja’s Gartenreich” uploaded a video about this on YouTube today. She always has lots of great advice, too.

...bei den einen regnet es die halbe Nacht, bei den anderen eine halbe Minute...🤷 Die Regentropfen sind nicht bis zur Dachrinne gelangt, sie sind von den Ziegeln aufgesaugt worden ...das darf doch einfach nicht wahr sein...🙄
Ja, ich konnte es auch kaum glauben. Aber es war bei Weitem nicht genug, aber ein Anfang!

Ja,der Garten ist stetig im Wandel und man lernt nie aus. Ich wünschte ich hätte etwas mehr Kraft und Energie, um Projekte besser und effizienter umsetzen zu können.

Vor allem Bäume pflanzen und enger, müssen ja nicht nur Eichen sein…
Ich stell dieses Jahr fest, dass die späten Tomaten besser sind und draußen super klarkommen. Bei uns ist es gerade aber auch nicht heiß, sondern mit höchstens Mitte 30 noch gerade auszuhalten, oft kühler. Die Streuung von frühen und späten Sorten kann m.e. die Saison retten…
Wo hast du solche gigantischen ollas her? Gräbst du sie nicht wieder aus?
Die habe ich mir selbst gebaut. Das kann man natürlich nicht für jedes Beet machen, so viel Lagerfläche habe ich nicht. Doch, die müssen im Winter raus. Ich werde mir Platzhalter aus Draht bauen und diese mit Gartenabfällen und Laub stopfen. So geht es dann im Frühjahr schneller und ich muss nicht wieder buddeln.
Ich hab Stöcke reingestellt.
Aus Ton oder Tontöpfen? 😘
Handelsübliche Tontöpfe. Allerdings sind das zwei unterschiedliche Topfformen. Das passt besser.
