Blausternchen

I’ve been waiting for them: The Large Red Damselfly (Photos 1 through 3) can always be seen at the garden pond in August. This one must be a male. Firebugs are always seen on the common mallow, either under the plant, where they feed on fallen seeds, or in the flowers, where they like to feed on aphids (a small aphid is clearly visible in Photo 5). Photo 6: I spotted a hornet flying into a crack in an upright dead tree trunk. At least one species of wasp nests there, and I’m sure there are plenty of larvae inside. I actually thought the hornet was going to collect these larvae, but instead I could clearly hear a scraping sound. Does it still need building material for its nest? 🤔 The water lily in the pond has finally started blooming after a few days 😀
