The redcurrant 'Rovada' is a top variety from Europe and enjoys great popularity. And not without reason. With its outstanding characteristics, (bot.) Ribes rubrum 'Rovada' is an added bonus for every fruit lover and is ideal for the home garden or commercial cultivation. The red currant 'Rovada' is a late and high-yielding variety that forms impressive, long, grapey panicles of up to 20 centimetres. Numerous large, medium-red fruits with firm flesh hang from them. The berries of the 'Rovada' redcurrant have a strong aroma and a sweet and sour taste. The delicacies are ideal for fresh consumption and enhance any cake or dessert. They are also a delicacy when processed into jam, jelly or juice and there are no limits to their uses. The fruits keep for a long time on the stem and are easy to pick from mid-July onwards. The red currant 'Rovada' is very hardy and bears its delicious fruit in the first year, or at the latest in the second year. It has a medium-strong, bushy to broad-bushy and upright growth habit. It reaches a height of 100 to 150 centimetres. It grows up to 120 centimetres wide. In an ideal location, the red currant 'Rovada' grows quickly at a rate of 20 to 40 centimetres per year. A sunny to semi-shaded, sheltered area with a nutrient-rich and well-drained soil offers the best conditions. The sunnier the Ribes rubrum 'Rovada' is, the higher the yield and the intensity of the aroma. Fertilizing in March and again after flowering also has a positive effect on the growth of the berries. It is best to use a special berry fertilizer for this and not horn shavings. This alone does not provide all the essential nutrients. Currants are self-fertile and do not need a partner. However, another plant promises a higher fruit yield. The berries develop from the tiny, yellow-greenish flowers of the redcurrant 'Rovada', which appear from May to June. They are inconspicuous and are barely noticeable due to the plant's foliage. The leaves are dark green in color, up to ten centimeters in size and round. The edge is notched and the surface is glossy. The three to five-lobed leaves fall in the fall. The plant is frost-hardy and survives the winter without any problems, with a few minor measures. It is advisable to cover the soil with mulch or straw and to place potted specimens in a sheltered position. Depending on the weather, cover with foil or fleece. Ribes rubrum 'Rovada' is easy to care for. This beautiful and undemanding plant is an enchanting bee pasture. All it needs is sufficient water without waterlogging. Its water requirement is due to the fact that it is a shallow-rooted plant. For this reason, it makes sense to spread a layer of compost, leaves or grass cuttings over the roots. This helps to retain moisture. The red currant 'Rovada' should be pruned during the dormant phase. Old, worn shoots should be removed close to the ground. The gardener should leave eight to ten ground shoots.
