Description

Desolate semi-shady to shady corners in the garden are a thing of the past with the planting of funkia! And if you are looking for a particularly impressive specimen, the green-leaved giant funkia is the right choice. It lives up to its name with its particularly large growth of up to 1 meter in height and up to 80 centimetres in width. This makes it an eye-catcher not only in sunny, colorful spots in the garden or on the patio, but also in low-light areas. The Giant Funkia also provides a neat flower decoration! At a height of up to 1.5 meters, its delicate bell-shaped flowers float above the ornamental perennial on long stems in July and August. Not only beautiful, but also ecologically valuable. The flowers of the funkia attract native, useful insects such as bees to our garden to feed them with their nectar supply. These neat inflorescences are perfect for cutting for summer bouquets, after which this funkia even produces new flowers. Last but not least, its leaves are also a great addition to home floristry, making wonderful self-tied bouquets. The green-leaved giant funkia is not the only ornamental plant: it has striking, large, roundish to heart-shaped leaves in a rich mid-green. No wonder funkias are also known as heart-leaved lilies. Even as a solitary plant, the giant green-leaved funkia is an effective addition to any shade garden, Japanese garden or pond edge. Last but not least, it is also suitable for group planting if you have plenty of space. This large hosta prefers a moist, airy location with well-drained, nutritious soil that is kept fresh to moderately moist. When cared for in this way, it is easy to look after. It can be fertilized with compost in spring and divided every 4 to 5 years. In a generous planter, long-term fertilizer and a slightly sheltered spot in winter will do it good. In this way, the green-leaved giant funkia becomes a green giant in the garden - with equally huge charisma in partial shade or shade!
