Passion flowers are fast-growing tropical climbers. They have fascinating flowers and some species produce edible fruit. The maracuja, for example, is a passionflower. The herb of many species is in use as a mood-enhancing natural remedy. A tea made from it tastes pleasantly smoky. The blue passionflower Passiflora caerulea is considered to be of great medicinal value and is one of the most robust and cold-tolerant varieties.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Passiflora caerulea can be kept as a climbing houseplant, but is also suitable for terrace or greenhouse. The perennial plant loves a lot of light and heat and water. The seeds germinate well in a warm and humid place. Passiflora caerulea also thrives in a greenhouse or outdoors. Young plants are frost resistant to - 15 °C, older specimens even to lower temperatures, so P. caerulea can be planted outdoors even in Central Europe. As a climbing plant, the Blue Passionflower requires a climbing support.
