Aji Cito is one of the hottest Capsicum baccatum varieties, at 100,000 SHU the hottest tree chili ever measured by the Chili Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University. Plants grow over three feet tall and are spreading. The yellow chilies are about 5 inches long, very aromatic with a hint of lemon. They are perfect for hot sauces, chutney and chili pastes, but are also suitable for drying and pickling. By the way: Aji is the general name for chilies in South America.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
The germination temperature is between 22 and 28°C (8 - 21 days germination period), so it is recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need a fresh, well-fertilized permeable soil and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be in a full sun, sheltered spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight, preferably more. Place the plants outside about 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. Since the plants have quite a long ripening period, you should cultivate them in pots so that you can bring the plants indoors when the temperature drops below 12°C during the day to allow all the fruits to ripen. To overwinter, cut back by 20 cm after harvest and place in a bright spot at a minimum of 15°C.
