(This variety is strikingly different from its family members in its chocolate-brown color. Its shape resembles that of all habaneros: similar to a small bell pepper with smooth, wrinkled, thin walls that nevertheless contain plenty of juice. It is one of the hottest, of the habanero chilies and about 50 times hotter than jalapeños. Its spiciness appears with a small delay, but then catches you with its full force. In the kitchen, it is mainly used for sauces and marinades.
