Sow tomato seeds in seed trays from March. The seeds germinate at temperatures around 20°C within 10 to 14 days, after another 5 to 7 days the small plants can be pricked out. The temperature at this time should be between 16 and 24°C. Tomatoes need a location as bright as possible, for example, on the windowsill or in the greenhouse, but they do not like direct sun. Tomatoes do not tolerate frost, they should be allowed outside only after the last frosts, preferably in mid-May after the Ice Saints. Tomatoes are usually heavy growers and like regular fertilization during the growing season. Wild tomatoes can also cope with less good sites. They tolerate intermittent drought and do not need as much fertilizing as pole tomatoes. If the plants are in a container, they can be watered well with a liquid fertilizer. If they are planted in open soil, it should be loosened a little beforehand. Wild tomatoes also grow on walls, frieze walls or stone walls. The plants are not suitable for overwintering. It is much easier to reseed them in the spring and cultivate them as annuals.
