Description

The beefsteak tomato 'Noire Russe' or 'Noire de Russe' is a historic variety that produces brown-red, almost black tomatoes and is also known as the chocolate tomato due to its fruit color. The large, flat-round, ribbed fruits of 'Noire Russe' are soft-fleshed with a full, spicy tomato aroma. They ripen medium-early and weigh up to 200 grams. The vigorous plants grow to a height of approx. 1.5-1.8 m, the long harvest lasts from July to the end of October and the fruits ripen until shortly before frost. Possibly identical to the Black Russian variety from Australia.

Non hybrid

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

Transplant to the open ground when frost is no longer to be feared and the seedlings are approx. 12 to 15 cm high or when the first flowers appear. Water the tomatoes: Depending on whether you are propagating tomatoes or sowing them directly, and depending on the location and variety, you will need to water your tomato plants differently often. Tomatoes can develop very deep roots that can even draw water from the groundwater. In this case, you hardly need to water them, if at all. Pay attention to the leaves, if they hang limp you should water your tomato plants. The soil dries out more quickly, especially in pots, raised beds and raised beds, so you will need to water them more often.
