'Vater Rhein' is the name of this oxheart tomato from Germany. The high-yielding vine tomato produces medium-sized, bright red fruits. The normal-leaved plants have light, drooping foliage, a slender growth habit and grow up to 2 meters high. It takes around 65 days from fertilization to harvest. The ox hearts reach a diameter of 6-10 cm, grow up to 12 cm long and weigh up to 350 g. The heart-shaped fruits have a pronounced tip and are slightly ribbed from the base of the stalk. There are hardly any seeds in the full-fleshed, melt-in-the-mouth flesh. The skin is soft, but the fruit is relatively burst-resistant. The taste is aromatic, fruity, sweet and only slightly acidic. Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to find out anything about the origin or the breeder. However, 'Vater Rhein' has been stored at the IPK Gatersleben under LYC 298 since 1952 and is registered as a German variety. (tomato junkie)
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Under normal weather conditions, you can grow them outdoors without hesitation. However, it is best under a roof or sheltered. The fruits are more aromatic outdoors. Watering tomatoes: Depending on whether you are pre-sowing or direct sowing tomatoes, and depending on the location and variety, you will need to water your tomato plants differently often. Tomatoes can develop very deep roots that can even draw water from the groundwater. In this case, you hardly need to water them, if at all. Pay attention to the leaves, if they hang limp you should water your tomato plants. The soil dries out more quickly, especially in pots, raised beds and raised beds, so you will need to water them more often.
