Description

The stinkweed is a hardy, low-growing ornamental and fragrant plant from the mint family. It forms bushy clumps with gray-green, slightly hairy leaves and small blue-violet flowers in the summer. When touched or on warm days, the plant emits an intense odor that is unpleasant to many people and animals. It is therefore often planted as a natural deterrent against cats and dogs in flower beds, front yards, or along paths. The plant prefers a sunny to partially shaded location and well-drained, somewhat dry soil. It is considered relatively low-maintenance and tolerates heat and occasional drought well.
