The lychee, also known as lychee or litchi, is originally from southern China and south-east Asia. It is an evergreen tree with decorative, glossy foliage. The pink to red, prickly fruits contain a juicy, sweet and sour stone, which is eaten raw or processed into juice, compote or preserves. In tropical and subtropical regions, the lychee is grown commercially; in Central European latitudes, it can only be cultivated in greenhouses or containers.
