Description

Der Gingko zeichnet sich durch einen schlanken und aufrechten Wuchs aus. In jungen Jahren wirkt er pyramidenförmig und ist mit wenigen Ästen ausgesgesgestattet. Die wenig verzweigten Äste älterer Exemplare wachsen verstärkt horizontal und bilden auf diese Weise ausladende Kronen. Die Rinde ist grau bis dunkelbraun und zeigt im Alter tiefe Furchen. Häufufig erreicht der Baum Wuchshöhen von bis zu 40 Metern und einen Durchmesser von bis zu vier Metern.

Growing tips

The ginkgo does not make any great demands on the soil. It is an adaptable shrub that grows on all deep soils. Only soil that is too dry or too wet is detrimental to the plants. The best growing conditions are on loamy, nutritious soil in sunny to semi-shady locations. Young plants need protection from direct sunlight in the garden. Ice, snow and temperatures down to -30° C do not harm the mature tree.
