Brunfelsia uniflora is a medium-sized, evergreen shrub or small tree with diffuse, spreading branches. It usually grows 0.5 to 3 meters tall, but there are reports of plants up to 8 meters tall. The plant has long been used as a medicinal plant by local people and is still often cultivated for medicinal purposes in South America. It is often collected in the wild for medicinal purposes and plantations are also frequently cultivated, although it is particularly prized for its highly fragrant flowers, which are cultivated as an ornamental tree, especially in the tropics.
