The Norway spruce is an interesting, evergreen large tree with dark green needles. Picea abies bears purple flowers from April. Cylindrical, brown cones ripen from them in September. The preferred location for the Norway spruce is a sunny to semi-shady position with sandy and loamy garden soil. Under optimal conditions, Picea abies grows cone-shaped and reaches heights of up to 50 m and widths of around 8 m. This conifer is a beautiful specimen tree.
