The Syrian limb is a perennial herbaceous winter-green plant. It reaches growth heights of approx. 30 centimeters. It is a shallow-rooting plant. The foliage of Sideritis syriaca is gray-green. It flowers from June to August. The flower color is yellow. Sideritis syriaca is not necessarily a decorative garden plant. Rather, it is tea drinkers who appreciate Cretan mountain tea and like to grow it in their own garden - so that it is always to hand. The tea (traditionally it should simmer for 10 minutes) of this herb (inflorescence) tastes deliciously mild and cinnamony. It also contains an antibiotic substance that helps with colds and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It is good to know that Sideritis syriaca only seems to thrive well in the long term in really genuine limestone locations. So give the plant a fully sunny spot in the rock garden, surrounded by walls or together with herbs to ensure reliable drainage. For those who have no experience in preparing mountain tea, it should be noted that it is not the leaves but the woody inflorescence (full-length, including inflorescence) that is used for infusion. Cretan mountain tea is often also referred to as Greek mountain tea; however, Greek mountain tea is actually a collective term for various Sideritis species (limb herbs).
