Description

Winter horsetail (Equisetum hyemale var. robustum) is a versatile and robust plant that adds a special touch to any garden with its unique, evergreen appearance. No leaves, only upright stems interrupted by internodes, which remain green even in winter. Black-green, inconspicuous, June to July. Growth: Equisetum hyemale var. robustum grows upright and reaches a height of 50 to 100 cm. The plant forms dense, upright stems reminiscent of bamboo. Flowers: This plant does not form classic flowers, but produces spores in inconspicuous, cone-like structures at the tips of the stems. Distribution: Originally native to the temperate zones of the northern hemisphere, winter horsetail can be found in damp, swampy areas. Propagation: Propagation is by spores and underground rhizomes, which spread easily. Ideal for landscaping pond edges and damp garden areas. Provides an attractive, evergreen structure all year round. Helps to prevent erosion damage to embankments and banks. Can also be used in planters on patios and balconies.
