Description

Irish heather' is an Atlantic dwarf shrub and prefers acidic, nutrient-poor soil with an Atlantic climate. In the home garden, it thrives best in a mix of rhododendron soil and sand. If you want to enjoy it in your own garden, you need to ensure sufficient watering. The shrubs are well branched and the individual shoots are upright. The evergreen leaves are six to twelve millimeters long and have an oval to lanceolate shape. The underside of the leaves has a dense, white-colored hair felt. The decorative flowers are pendulous on long, terminal inflorescences. The petals have dense glandular hairs and the calyx is spattered. The bulbous and bell-shaped corolla has four little teeth at its tip. The flower is large, which makes Cinderella a decorative plant that is popular with gardening enthusiasts. This beauty unfolds its full splendor in the summer months. Between the end of July and mid-September, it creates a sea of white to soft pink colors in the home garden. It can be beautifully displayed in containers as well as on balconies and terraces, and is best planted in larger containers per square meter. In spring, the addition of a rhododendron fertilizer is recommended. The plants also love airy conditions, so loosening the soil and removing weeds is ideal. The ideal soil is not too dry, humus-rich and has a pH value of four to five. In this environment, the Cahode feels optimally cared for. In windy locations, planting is recommended at the end of fall and immediately after. It should also be protected from cold and drying winds. The cut form of Irish heather is not extremely hardy, but will sprout again after natural pruning. The plant is perennial, does not require intensive pruning and then suffers immediately. It should also be protected from cold and drying winds. Covering the plants with fir branches is an advantage in winter sun.
