The Fargesia jiuzhaigou Deep Purple bamboo impresses with its unique, dark reddish to black stems, which show a particularly attractive coloration in spring. This variant of Fargesia 'Jiuzhaigou' is considered one of the darkest Fargesia nitida varieties. The deep black stems develop their full color intensity especially in a sunny location, while they also thrive in semi-shady and shady locations. Compared to other Jiuzhaigou varieties, the hardy garden bamboo shows less leaf rolling in extreme weather conditions, which makes it particularly robust. Fargesia jiuzhaigou Deep Purple grows in a clump and reaches a height of around 4 meters, although it grows more slowly and has a more delicate appearance overall. This makes it an excellent choice for creating solitary plantings, as a decorative bamboo hedge or as a container plant. Thanks to its clumpy growth, this bamboo does not require a rhizome barrier and is easy to integrate into the garden. It originates from the Jiuzhaigou National Park in the Chinese province of Sichuan, where this variety was discovered in the early 2000s. For optimal development in hedge plantings, it is recommended to maintain a planting distance of 70 cm to 100 cm. The decorative Fargesia jiuzhaigou Deep Purple bamboo is versatile and is perfect for sunny, semi-shady or shady locations. With its unusual leaf decoration and dark reddish to black stems, it adds a special accent to any garden. Its suitability as a container plant also makes it ideal for patios and balconies, where it can be provided with light winter protection if required.
