The pampas grass 'Rosa Feder' with its bright, pink fronds that form in the fall is an impressive plant that really comes into its own when planted as a specimen. Even in a border with other perennials, the pampas grass looks impressive from a distance, as the fronds attract attention. The pink spikes catch the eye from afar and decorate the garden. The upright growth and the leaves that only hang slightly to the side are also a feature that makes it just as suitable for integration into beds with other plants as it is for planting as a stand-alone perennial. The fronds last a long time and can also be cut off easily. The large flowers are very suitable for use in dry arrangements, where they make a nice change with their pink coloring. The 'Rosa Feder' likes sunny to semi-shady locations. This pampas grass grows particularly well as a free-standing plant. The best time to plant it is in late spring, when the 'Pink Feather' starts to sprout. A location with loose, sandy soil is ideal. In summer, the pampas grass needs sufficient water and should never dry out completely. However, winter wetness should be avoided as the plants are very sensitive to it. A well-drained soil is therefore preferable. Pampas grass is only cut back in spring. The stems are shortened to about a hand's breadth above the ground. The plant only sprouts again relatively late, when the temperatures are already warmer. Soon after budding, the 'Pink Feather' reaches a considerable height again before the new flowers are formed in late summer. These can be pruned at any time without affecting the growth of the rest of the plant. Before the first severe frosts, the crown should be tied together and wrapped in brushwood or coconut matting to provide better protection from the icy cold.
