The medlar (Mespilus germanica) is a plant species of the pome fruit family (Pyrinae) in the rose family (Rosaceae). It is a deciduous tree (also called a medlar) with a crooked trunk and broad crown that bears edible fruit.
Medlars thrive well in sunny locations and are relatively drought-resistant. Medlars grow up to six meters tall and are fairly undemanding. When choosing a location, you should bear in mind that the tree forms a lush, sometimes sprawling crown. The plant prefers well-drained and nutrient-rich soil.
