Rhubarb 'Elmsblitz' is a well-known and highly prized variety. This beautiful dark red rhubarb is characterized by its low oxalic acid content. This has the great advantage that 'Elmsblitz' can be harvested and prepared without hesitation for some time after June 24 (St. John's Day). The low oxalic acid content also explains the wonderfully mild taste.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
This bushy, herbaceous plant thrives best in medium-heavy, deep and well-watered soil. Rhubarb sprouts from root rhizomes in early spring. For propagation, individual root rhizomes are cut off and replanted. When the first flowers appear, you should remove them to encourage vegetative growth. Remove stems at the root collar. Rhubarb can be harvested for 6-7 years, after which you should take a cultivation break of 6-7 years. Harvest only from the 2nd year. Then only harvest until mid-May, from the 3rd year you can harvest until the longest day. Cut off up to 30 % of the plant every 2 weeks during the main harvest period
